I have a dream.... It's to own a really scarily modified SE/30.
I've been collecting bits, but haven't collected an SE/30 yet.

The local Goodwill Store has one for $5 with a note on it that it
boots but the mouse does not work. This is a Goodwill Computer store
so they have plenty of mice with which to test it. No particular
mouse is included wtih the unit. So I'm pretty sure this means that
the ADB bus is damaged.

Is there likely a simple fix for this? On a newer machine I'd just
pull off the CUDA chip and replace it, but I'm betting there wasn't a
CUDA chip back when the SE/30 was fresh and shiny. From looking at
some of the schematics on Gamba's site, it looks like the ADB comes
out of the VIA1. Is that a custom Apple chip or something which is
more generally available?

Is there any difference other than color between a yellow and a
platinum SE/30? This one is yellow. I was surprised as I thought
they were all platinum.

Moving along... I went over to LEM and followed the link to Gamba's
page which discusses a "homemade clone of the Micron Technology
'Xceed Gray-Scale 30' adapter". Gamba, is there a schematic or
plans for this available anywhere? I wasn't quite clear after
reading the page on a couple of details. Does one require the Xceed
video card in order to use the gray scale adapter? And is it true
that if one has an external monitor connected, the gray scale adapter
is not active?

Third, I read with interest the various attempts to get an ethernet
card, video card and CPU upgrade into the case. Is the conclusion
at this point that it is not doable? Might it work better with a
different video card or is the Exceed the best choice for these
experiments. If so, what makes it the best?

So far I have some Daystar Turbo 040 upgrades and three different PDS
slot adapters. I'm not sure that any of these are useful PDS slot
adapters though. That is, I suspect that none of them are actually
for the Turbo 040.

One is a SuperMac "Dual PDS Adapter". I'm guessing that's no good
for the Turbo 040 because the Turbo 040 plugs directly into a IIci
cache slot and the IIci cache slot is reputedly different from the
IIsi/SE30 slot. So I would guess that the adapter needs to do
something to the SE/30 pinout before a Turbo 040 will work.

I also have two Daystar 01-PSIAD-002P adapters. These each have a
PLD on them and one slot is labeled "For Daystar Cache Cards Only"
and the other is labeled "For PDS Cards Only". The big question
here, is will these work with the Turbo 040 or are they for an older
Daystar upgrade?

The Goodwill store also has at least one Mac Con in their bins. I
think they also have one with the card that plugs into the
motherboard, but not the other card which connects to the cable.
Sigh. I haven't seen anything like a video card for the SE/30,
though. Of course, the stuff in the bins changes regularly.

Last question group. Has it been confirmed that the IIfx ROM will
work in the SE/30? Does it work well? What about the IIsi ROM?
Is the IIci ROM differnt from the IIsi?

I had a mystery ROM in my collection and just identified it as an
SE/30 ROM. A local parts store (Howard Electronics) gave it to me
when they found that I was into Macs. The thing that puzzles me is
that this ROM bears four Atmel 27C512 chips which should add up to
256 Kbytes of storage. Yet the silk screening on the ROM says "512K
ROM SIMM".
