I try to stay away from the non-adb, non-SuperDrive (1.4k) Compacts, that
is, the Plus and earlier. I do have a 512k which I fire up just to listen to
the floppy churn and my very first Mac, a Plus, in pieces. But I like to
keep my keyboards, mice and floppies standard to go along with the rest of
my Macs (none of which are USB).

I like the SE/30 the best, and it's the Compact that is most often booted up
to play with. I think I like them the best because they don't have the 4-meg
RAM limit...shoot, my college days not too long ago (when the Plus was my
one and only computer) I was butting against that 4-meg limit so much. The
SE/30 has set me free!

I do like my Color Classic but it's in another category in my mind. It's a
Mystic so I think unfair to compare to the True Compacts. Ones that seem
more related are the early PowerBooks (the 170 is the only one I've had
experience with). Small, slow, memory limits, and black & white screen.

How common is it to have one of each? All lined up in a row on a long table
: )

I have a Centris 650 too, as the original poster mentioned. Also noted, not
much charm. Those '40 computers seem best to give to kids, they have just
enough memory and fast enought CD-ROMs to play the slew of Reader Rabbit
type games out there. To a Mac-fan/collector, they're useful but otherwise
pretty boring compared to the PowerMacs on one side and Compact Macs on the
other side.

For transferring files, I use an external zip drive, out of habit.
