When I had a Plus back in 1989-91 I lusted after the SE/30. I thought if I could only have that much power, memory, and hard drive space all built in to the unit, I could run any program and do anything!! My little Plus was great, I did all my business economics analysis on it as well as personal correspondance, finances and games too of course. I bought a modem and got on the net in 1991 through a little bbs called "Seattle Online" that delivered new Usenet feeds overnight (via a Seattle University feed) but did not have "real-time access" to the net (ftp, irc, telnet, etc). I did't get that until I got in to the UW (University of Washington) dialup switch. Now I have the Plus, SE, SE/30, IIci, LCIII and Quadra 605 as well as my G4 here at home in my computer room. I transfer files using an Appleshare Localtalk connection, or an external SCSI drive, and I can connect my SE/30 via ethernet to the G4 (in OS9 only) to get stuff archived to CD-R. I can connect an external Apple CD-600e to the SE/30 to get stuff on to the machine. I also bought a number of new DSDD floppies to use to move files between two macs. I find them useful as they are the only kind of floppies that can be used with the Plus! I find I like the SE/30 for it's power and conveinance of the built in hard drive. I also like the Plus for it's ability to be a silent Mac. I used to have a floppy with a minimal system and ZTerm which I could use to get in to UW. I could do all my email and ftp'ing, then when I wanted to download a file I would just shut down the Plus, start up the external Microtech 40mb drive, and get back on and download it to there. I understand Steve Jobs push for a silent, or nearly silent Mac. The iMac January, 2000 did away with the cooling fan, and I bought the $999 September, 2000 one with the Pro Keyboard and Optical mouse. It was silent as silent as a Plus was, but it was close.
