I don't know what he means by that, maybe he means turn off the
Multifinder, which can be done in "Set Startup" in one of menu pulldowns.

A neat way to gain memory in a machine like that with system 6 is to use
the FaberFinder 4.14 minifinder instead of Apple's Finder.
