Welllll.... I would use 8.6, except for the fact that... I CAN'T FIND IT :-( I got my copy of 8.1 and 9.1 off the Mac admin at school, and downloaded 7.5.5 off Apple's site (I love their HTTP so much better than FTP... download.info.apple.com for those who didn't know :-) ). I always install Aaron on my <OS8 comps... the 8 interface is so much sweeter than 7... heh
Your looking for a 8.5 install disk then upgrade to 8.6 from you favorite site above. You'll find its has smaller requirements and basicly the same interface. You'd need to find the 8.5 install disk somewhere.
I almost forgot... I run [EMAIL PROTECTED] on this Mac too... *hehe*... it's up to 11.806% on its first workunit, been running for 30 hr, 17 min, 11 sec... my desktop does one workunit every 8 hours... heh
Dont give the little bloke a break do you? :)
So where on Earth do I go about finding Virtual PC 2? (or will PCX work on it? I'll try that right after I send this... www.emulation.org I think)
Probably the same place you found vpc4, realpc or softwindows maybe worth a look and you may find them as registerable demo versions unlike vpc, no idea of pcx but there is a low traffic list called mac-n-dos you might find interesting. Softwindows1 works ok on a quadra so you'll find something that will work.
And about my Classic.... any ideas on why, after shutting it off, I have to wait 5-10 minutes (usually) to turn it back on - else I get this "checkerboard" screen and have to start the timer over... now, even after 2 hours, it's STILL doing it! I'm getting kinda worried! This happened right after my last post, saying "i just shut it off"... now it wont turn back on... AAAA! I think it has something to do with the missing PRAM/clock battery... it was dead and I took it out, havent had $ or time to go to Radio Shack and get a new one... any ideas?
Give it a battery, also check around the battery area for any signs of leakage from any of the componants. Radio Shack seems to have dropped these batteries in my country, picked up by the Dick Smith chain.
PS: I fastened the heatsink onto the board via the 4 holes surrounding the CPU on the board... then leveled it on the chip, then used electrical tape to wrap around the bare ends of the twisties... like heck am I taping anything with electrical tape! That's a gooey mess waiting to happen!
:) mac cpu heatsinks are always hot, a cpu fan is a good inprovement, really hot cache may give you problems under the load your giving your 601? anything with electrical tape ends up a gooey mess regardless.
PS2 :-) : Yep, the Classic boots faster than my Palm III (16MHz, 2mb RAM) out of ROM, but if you format the HDD then copy the contents of the ROM disk to the HDD and boot, it's even FASTER to boot than the ROM! Like, flip it on and before your finger gets back to the keyboard, it's at the desktop... fast.
Haven't tried it, I know the chinesse system 6.07 gets up a frag faster than the english 6.08 from hdd, both fast enough to make the little guy seem spritely regardless. OS6.x can also be found at apple for nix
PS3: Haven't finished the Macquarium yet... still looking for something to make a tank out of... actually less looking, more waiting for Dough.
perspex.? Without wishing offence, we should remove talk of powermacs, pc's and any OS above OS8.1 you will find other lem lists where the such are completely on topic. Sorry list rulez. I like all my different machines and emulators also.
Cheers
