With regards to Randal's question on initialisation strings my experience is basically PC based but I have spent a bit of time pre internet connecting to bulletin boards and post internet with troublesome connections. Essentially you need to do a search for "Hayes Modem Commands" which will provide you with a range of different variables to try. I have found recently that not all commands work with all modems. The "AT&F1" that has been mentioned uses the standard factory setting (No1) , of which there can be more e.g. "AT&F2" The command ""AT&V" will allow you see the seetings that are stored. The other comment made was about auto negotiation which probably suits 99.9% of cases but it is possible that the modem may have trouble with slower speeds. e.g I believe V34 covers a range from 14400 - 33600 and V90 from 14400 -56000 bps. The AT&V command I mentioned earlier will give you an idea of the capabilities of your particular modem. In Australia our Telco can do a MOLDS (great name??) test which I have done, which allows them to diagnose both the line conditions and Modem and suggest an appropriate Init String. No guarentees however. I would suggest it will be a case of trial and error until the correct settings are found and as it appears no one here is averse to a bit of tinkering that should not be a problem. Hope this helps,
