Assuming your MODEM command set is compliant with the standard Hayes AT command set:
The short answer is there is no specific init string to do what you want because there are many Init string options which you may or may not want to include. Init strings are series of commands issued in sequence. Each command performs a specific function. However, you can add this to your current init string "S37=11" (without the quotes) to limit the DCE line speed to 14,400. This should be done prior to any DT or DP command, but after any &F command. For example "AT&FS37=11" will do what you want, but will not include any of your specific MODEM features (it will also not dial out, a second command string would be required to do that... such as "ATDT5551212" to go off hook and originate a touchtone call to 555-1212).
In general the maximum DCE line speed a MODEM will connect at will be the DTE line speed, this is controlled by the software you are connecting with. Setting the serial port baud rate to 14,400 should give you the limit you desire.
DCE is the connection between one MODEM and another. DTE is the connection between your computer and the MODEM.
AT : Attention &F : Reset MODEM to factory defaults DT : Go off hook and originate call using touch tone dialing DP : Go off hook and originate call using pulse dialing S37=6 : 2400 bps S37=7 : 4800 bps S37=9 : 9600 bps S37=11 : 14400 bps S37=11 : 14400 bps S37=12 : 19200 bps S37=15 : 28800 bps
There are several hundred other Init / Command string options
Good luck,
Derek
I've been told that I can use an init string to slow down my Supra 28.8 modem to 14.4 so I can use the internet on my Classic. So far... I've searched for about an hour... and I still haven't fond that init string... does anyone know how to get it???
