I had the same problem with a PowerBook 5300 iwas trying to get online. I found the info needed to slow down my 56k modem to 28.8 at this website: http://808hi.com/56k/x2-linklimit.asp#3.com This site had mostly 56k modems listed, but I did find a section for 33.6 modems.
