Yes, of course. Someone on another list Jeff and I subscribe to was asking about the possibilities of having a small project server. Something that would be accessible to friends and family during certain times. The limiting factor was the dynamic IP.
The plug was partly tongue-in-cheek. I don't expect anyone to really run a dedicated web server off of dialup.
I've done it, more as a learning experience than anything else.
Check out <http://www.dyndns.org>. You sign up with them (free) and get a domain name based off one of theirs and then run a program on your computer. When ever your IP changes it contacts the dyndns servers and changes the IP address accordingly. The TTL (Time To Live) for these addresses is quite short so there is only a small problem with the address changing. The Mac software for this will also nail up your connection based on a schedule.
