You compacters everywhere:

Our <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> shares re use of your dialup account for use
of your low volume server:

>Be aware people, this may breach your dial-up ISP service agreement/policy.

As with advice to discharge CRTs, this is advice proper "to an extent".
Yeah, I suppose you can get at crossed swords with your ISP; maybe not.
I've set up a Color Classic "Mystic" with a 350 MB hard drive in another
family member's closet some forty miles from me. Using a setup similar to
that described here in the last week, this Mystic has served as our
extended family's low volume server for two years now and I doubt that
anyone has even noticed that Color Classic is in the closet or hooked to
the phoneline. It is indeed connected to a dialup. We use it to post
schedules, group letters, pix of the newest kids and travels, all that kind
of stuff. The numbers of people calling in hence the traffic is tiny. In
over two years, the ISP has not raised any question while all of us have
happily been sharing stupid holiday letters, graduation announcements, maps
to grandma's funeral, and pictures of kids young and old doing silly
things. The trick we mastered at the gitgo was to keep control of the url.
We have. Should your ISP raise the issue, begging forgiveness along with a
check for the resubscription fee goes alot furthur with an ISP than asking
them for permission at the start. Besides, you were probably going to
change from that mean, cranky, hostile ISP anyhow.
