I installed a new (box unopened, shrinkwrap still on, etc.) Asante MC+30IET64 card into my SE/30. The SE/30 is running System 7.5.5, 250MB HDD, 128MB RAM.
Quoting Marten van de Kraats:
"Don't forget that Asante offers a lifetime warranty. If you send it back you may get something in return. An acquaintance of mine once send a couple of fried asante cards to asante and got new ones in return."
I hooked up a crossover Ethernet cable between my Power Mac 7300/200 and the SE/30 and switched both to use Ethernet for AppleTalk. Nothing shows up in either machines' Chooser. I know AppleTalk is working on both because I had to use it on both machines' printer ports to move the 7.5.3 update over to the SE/30. I know the Ethernet port on the 7300 works because I keep it hooked up to my router and use it through there.
Have you also updated open transport to 1.1.2 or are you using mactcp?
I also tried using a regular Ethernet cable between the SE/30 and my Linksys BEFSR81 router and tried pinging the manually assigned IP address. Ping came back saying the host was down.
Ignore the tcp problem for the time being, update the OT if needed and test with both a X-over and straight cable to the 7300. If you still get nothing with both the Asante test or appletalk then it looks like a replacements in order.
Good luck
