I figured I'd waste a bit of bandwidth here and say that I'm getting an
SE I recently aquired (for FREE!) to use as an alarm clock at my
familiy's hunting cabin. I've done a few things I've never done before in
the process.

I'm using local talk to get the files I want on it in it. I'm doing that
as I type this; boy it sure is a slow process. I've got it hooked up to
this SE/30 and am moving files from this hard drive and from a 200M
SyQuest disk to it. Almost all the Macs I use have 10BaseT ethernet cards
in them, so I've never used this method before. I also didn't realize
there was a maximum amount of files you could move at one time. This SE
has got 4M of RAM, and I've gotten two errors saying that I have to move
a folder in several sessions rather than all at once.

I've also installed 6.0.8 on the SE (it had 7.1 on it, that was a bit too
slow for my liking). I've never used file sharing on 6.0.8 before, I
wasn't even 100% sure it could be done. It seems to work just fine. I
like the fact that you can select any drive on the system you're logged
into instead of just ones that are set up for sharing. (at least I don't
ever recall setting up this Syquest disk for sharing before)

I'm loading the hard drive (it came with a 250M inside, that was pulled
from another machine judging from some of the control panels in the
system) with a bunch of games so if and when we ever get rained out, the
kids and I can have something to do.

Once I get the hard drive loaded with all the games I have for my SE/30,
I have to go through and test them to see which ones will run on this SE.
Sounds like as good a way to spend a cool, damp day as any.

I'm looking forward to finally using the Mac Bag I got a few months ago
for actually transporting a compact Mac instead of just storing one in it.

Well, I've rambled enough,

J White
