I don't know about PhoneNet or the Ethertalk adapter you're trying to
use. I also don't know what version of OS 9 you're trying to use on your
iBook.

I do know that around OS 9.2, my PowerMac G4 stopped networking with my
SE/30 (running 7.1) connected by a hub, regular cat 5 cables, and a PDS
ethernet card. It started working again as soon as I put the filesharing
extention from OS 7.6 in my system folder for the SE/30.

If that Color Classic or Classic II will run 7.6, try putting that on it,
and see if they can see the iBook. If it does, move the filesharing
extention from 7.6 to the other macs running 7.1 or higher. I'm almost
certain that extention will not work with anything earlier than 7.1, so
the system 6 macs still won't be able to work with the iBook. Hopefully
someone here will have a better answer for you regarding the older OSs.

Hope this helps,

J White
