See if where the cartridge mount to the holder isn't dirty somehow. There's a row of gold-colored contacts there. They might be in need of a cleaning. Also, all new cartridges require a "priming". There's a utility in the print window, that which pops up when you tell it to print a document, that you can tell it to clean a new cartridge.
