Well, I finally got around to trying out the suggestions people replied with. BTW, thanx! No SCSI-ID conflict and I tried the software without the pass-through connector, but that didn't seem to make a difference. However, I did finally get the drivers on the drive and format it. Don't ask me how, I just kept trying and it didn't lock up that time. The MicroNet utility even mounted it to the desktop after formatting it. I copied a few files on and off it to be sure it was working properly --- seemed okay.
Shutdown the Macintosh and restarted to see the new external SCSI drive mount to the desktop. Macintosh failed to startup unable to find the system disk (in this case an internal SCSI drive). If the external SCSI drive is off the Macintosh starts up correctly, but the drive does not mount to the desktop and then hangs the Macintosh when the external SCSI drive is turned on. The MicroNet and other SCSI software utilities still report the external SCSI drive on every available SCSI-ID regardless of the physical setting on the drive. I agree with everyone that it seems to be a termination issue. Does anyone know where I can get a reasonably priced Centronics/SCSI-1 50-pin Male-connector terminator? Or possibly have one they're willing to part with? FYI, I'm in the USA, Pittsburgh, PA area. I looked in local electronics stores, but they look at you like you have a third-eye when you tell them what you want.
