Hi folks - I'm a relative newcomer to the list. I got a Mac SE (4/20) hooked up to a Stylewriter II. It's my first compact Mac, so I'm kinda feeling my way along here. My question is this: Is there a way to improve print quality with the Stylewriter? Just about all the fonts I've tried seem to be printing out a bit crude. Some are better than others, but none are nearly as good as put out by my HP Deskwriter 600 connected to a PowerMac 5400. I love the little Mac and I'm looking forward to making it a very productive little machine!
If you use postscript fonts ( it will print very clear. If you are using non-postscript fonts, try to use only the base font sizes (10,12,14,18,24, etc.) as if you use other font sizes the text is only a scaled version of a smaller size. It is like taking a 320x240 image and blowing it up to 640x480. The result is very grainy and crude.
Another reason the stylewriter is grainy would be because of its low dpi. I have a deskwriter 660c which does in fact print better quality text and photos than my stylewriter, even with brand-new cartridges. If none of this helps, try cleaning your cartridge(s).
