Hi folks - I'm a relative newcomer to the list. I got a Mac SE (4/20) hooked
up to a Stylewriter II. It's my first compact Mac, so I'm kinda feeling my
way along here.
My question is this: Is there a way to improve print quality with the
Stylewriter? Just about all the fonts I've tried seem to be printing out a
bit crude. Some are better than others, but none are nearly as good as put
out by my HP Deskwriter 600 connected to a PowerMac 5400.
I love the little Mac and I'm looking forward to making it a very productive
little machine!
Thanks for your help.

Which OS are you running? If it's System 6, the system only comes with bitmapped fonts which just go blocky when scaled up in size. Since the printer has a higher resolution than the computer screen it always needs a larger point size than the screen font e.g. if you use a 12-point font on-screen, it's probably going to need to use a 24-point font to print with. If you don't have that point size it will pick the closest one to that size and scale it up.

You can add TrueType font support to System 6.0.7 or 6.0.8 with a download from Apple. Go to <http://www.info.apple.com/support/oldersoftwarelist.html> and search the page for "TrueType".

If you're running System 7 or later, then it beats me...
