Several good suggestions have already been made, but I'll try to make some more. I have a Stylewriter II printer at home and it too has some print quality issues. First thing to try, clean the inside of the printer out with Q-tips and isopropyl alcohol to get all of the clogged ink out, especially where the ink cartridge meats holster. Try to get all the crusted-on ink out as possible. Secondly, install truetype fonts, a selection come with the Stylewriter printer disks if you have them, if not, perhaps I could post images of them somewhere. A better place to get truetype fonts is from Internet Explorer. Download IE 3 or 4, and then in the installer you can choose custom install, and then just choose to install web fonts. You will get all the standbys, Times New Roman, Verdana, etc. You can also install the grayshare extension which will allow you to print in greyscale (and share the printer). GrayShare_Update_1.0.sea.bin is available here:

Even after you do all this, you are still limited to 300x300 dpi. This is a fine resolution for reasonable sized text, but is probably sub-optimal for images and complicated fonts.

PS Robert Reuter; Canon BC-02 is what I am using in my Stylewriter right now, can be a little bit on the expensive side (~$25) but they seem to last a long time.

Hi folks - I'm a relative newcomer to the list. I got a Mac SE (4/20) hooked
up to a Stylewriter II. It's my first compact Mac, so I'm kinda feeling my
way along here.
My question is this: Is there a way to improve print quality with the
Stylewriter? Just about all the fonts I've tried seem to be printing out a
bit crude. Some are better than others, but none are nearly as good as put
out by my HP Deskwriter 600 connected to a PowerMac 5400.
I love the little Mac and I'm looking forward to making it a very productive
little machine!
Thanks for your help.
