My Mobius experience is basically the same as yours, I downloaded the drivers from www.macdrivermuseum.com and I can setup a RAM disk with the additional RAM, but I cannot map the memory into main memory for general application use. Maybe it is using the accelerators memory as main memory and the SEs memory for a RAM disk, it is hard for me to say since I have 4MBs installed in each. I also find that the SE will crash hard during certain games (probably due to the sound bug you mention). The Mobius accelerator does seem to make the system less stable. Several system extensions make the mobius SE crash that won't make a stock SE crash (such as System 7 tune-up). I guess I should be glad that I have a 68030.

Like you, I too have an SE/30 that I recently upgraded to 32 MBs of RAM so the SE is a secondary concern. It would be nice up the RAM to 16 MBs but even still, the mobius SE does not have color quickdraw which limits its usefulness.

Hi Skipp -

I have a Mobius 33MHz accelerator card w/the display adapter in my SE/HD,
too ...the SE/HD is currently "Mac bag'd" in favour of my SE/30, so it's
been a year or so since it was last on.

The 33MHz Mob' holds qty (4) 4MB of SIMMs too (and no, I've never tried to
put 16MB SIMMs in it ...although now that I say that, I wonder if it
wouldn't be worth at least a try, just to see if it works).

You will need to add a couple of drivers to get your SE to recognize any of
the Mobius RAM ...I believe I recall at least one (and possibly two) CPs
[control panels] for it, too (hmm, one was for the display ...again AFAIR
..so yes, there are two CPs).

The RAM driver will map the accelerator RAM as "main" system memory: the
onboard SE logicboard memory can be configured as a "semi-permanent" - until
you powered down - RAM disk (you can boot from it ...but all that said, I
didn't find it that useful, and AISTR that it would cause the odd system
crash when I tried booting from it ...the logicboard RAM is otherwise not
used.

The Mobius doesn't work all that well with sound in some programs btw (it
can cause a system freeze that necessitates a hard reset); you might keep
that in mind.

Other then the sound issue (and only that in the odd program), I found the
Mobius board (and drivers) stable (and I used a pretty wide range of
programs on that SE).

Let me know if the drivers from the Driver Museum don't work (I **think** I
had the last "most recent" drivers).

  3. Mobius 68030/2-page Display card

Dear List:

I have a Mobius 2-page display card for my SE. This card also has a
25mhz 68030 and space for 4 more RAM slots. I installed the card and
it appears that the 68030 is working because stuffit 5.5 works.
However, it does not seem to recognize the additional 4 MBs of RAM I
install on the card. In the About this Macintosh box it reports only
4MBs or RAM which is the amount installed in the motherboard. It is
running System 7.1. I have not tried installing the software on Mac
Driver Museum for it yet; I will as soon as I can get time to install
System 6 on their (the drivers only work in Sys6). Does anyone have
any advice or explanation for why it is not showing the correct amount
of RAM?

Skipp

PS. I recently installed 32MBs of RAM on my SE/30 and it is working
great, had to install Mode32 but boy is it fast!
