Almost all SE accelerators are limited to 4M of RAM total. When you install RAM on the accelerator card, the 030 can access that RAM more quickly, but it displaces rather than adds to your total RAM. A small amount of motherboard RAM continues to be used for video; the rest is typically hidden. The only manufacturer I know of that solved the 4M limit is Sonnet, which has a Presto for the SE that lets you use about 14M of 16 installed. Novy also allows you to install more than 4M on some accelerators, but only 4M is usable by MacOS; the rest can be used as a RAM disk via a Novy-specific driver. http://katsmacs.blogspot.com/ -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
