I am mainly just writing for moral support... I am trying to progress through denial and face up to the fact that I'll have to send my new SE/30 right back to the ebay seller. It started up once okay, but the second time it looked like the picture here
http://www.biwa.ne.jp/~shamada/fullmac/repairEng.html#SimasiMac
...like the "early symptoms" on the left. It doesn't bong, there are vertical stripy patterns like the ones in the picture, and it doesn't start up.
If I were experienced at opening and repairing old macs I guess I'd happily take it on as a challenge, but I'm definitely out of my depth here. I've never even opened one up, much less ever soldered anything in my life.
Sigh...
I will try starting it again a few times just to make sure I'm not hallucinating...
Thanks all,
Jessi
