Thank you loads for all your help. I had already been studying pickle's FAQ and other helpful Web sites related to the SE and SE/30 for a couple of weeks. Your additional information was just what I needed. Thanks particularly for the descriptions of the flyback transformer and other doohickies. I will take the advice NOT to try discharging the CRT but to let it do so on it's own (hoping that the bleeder resister hasn't died of age) and I will not touch the video card, CRT or stuff directly attached.
I first need to go buy myself a Torx screwdriver. I'll report back after my repair attempt!
