I have pulled the motherboard out and cleaned it with cotton swab and some rubbing Alcohol. That didnt work I would put it in the dishwasher if it worked. It stopped draining on us so we dont use it. Dont have the money right now to get a new one.
Classic II's fail by design it would seem.
If you haven't already washed the stains away, give the board a close visual inspection checking for leaky caps, any battery leaks or corronded track and componants especially around the battery holder area. You have removed and cleaned the ram pins and removed and replaced the rom simms (note the position and replace the same way) a couple of times to clean their pins. It would be nice if folks remembered these simple steps before recommending washing the board
You might try soaking the board in a solution, I'll leave the contents up to one of the FAQ hating guru's, or a aerosol pac of contact (electrical) cleaner and a bit of compressed air if you have it.
Leave the board to dry properly if its left to soak, I'm sure someone will suggest a minimal oven setting to help dry it, compressed air also helps here. Drying things is not really a problem where I am. ;)
Good luck, Classic II's enjoy the biggest failure rate of any mac model I have. :(
