Still enjoying my once-again-working Mac Classic II, I was just pondering
whether or not I should upgrade the System software. It arrived with
System 7.1, and I have not upgraded it as yet. I was wondering what the
most stable and effecient System software is for a Classic II? Is it
worth upgrading, or should I stick with 7.1? I was told 7.5.3 was the
best bet for my Performa 630CD, and I've been running that for over a year
now with no trouble. Also, what are memory requirements for System
software above version 7.1? My Classic II only has 4 MB of RAM currently.

7.1, update to 7.1.3. Unless there is a certain program that *needs* a higher OS in which case you wouldn't ask. Use system picker and a partitioned disk if you wish to try the *free* flavors but there is so little difference between the two I wouldn't bother with 7.5.x's bloatware for ppc compatiblity. Appearance extension and aim run fine under 7.1 for example.

Amazing what you can save when you cut the fat out of 7.x - 8.1

One classic 1 here runs 7.1 on 4mb with enough mem left over to use
macweb badly, well its a mac 68000 so we can't expect more ;) it does
email but then everthing does.

Macs love memory, the more the better
