Your terminology was rather clear.  If I recall correctly, MacIP
is TCP/IP encapsulated in AppleTalk.  AppleTalk can be used with
the serial or ethernet ports (LocalTalk refers to serial, EtherTalk
refers to ethernet).  It sounds like the proposed solutions will
work.
