Hey folks,

Just thought I'd let you know how my SE/30 is coming along. Some major new developments this weekend. I spotted an LC475 for sale on eBay a while back which wasn't attracting much attention. However, it was bundled with loads of software on CD, original System 7.1 disks and manuals and (to top it all off) an external Apple SCSI CDROM drive *and* a 12" Apple Color Display. I managed to get the job lot for about 25GBP.

This was the first time I've been able to try out the Rasterops colorboard 264/SE30 which was in the back of my SE/30 when I got it. So I just plugged in the monitor and booted the SE/30. The screen lit up but was blank, but when I tried to move my mouse pointer to the edge of the SE/30 screen, it appeared on the new monitor. Then I decided to try and load Adobe Photoshop 3 - a beauty of a program but not looking much on a B&W screen. 16 bit colour and 640x480 looked a hell of a lot better, and the 80MB of RAM this machine has installed meant that it truly flew!

However, my continued attempts to replace my ROM SIMM have failed yet again. I'd previously tried doing the switch with System 7.5.3 installed, and some people suggested that may have been the problem. However, as per Gamba's site, having System 7.1 installed results in the same problem - horrible mixture of vertical lines and checkerboard patterns on screen. I get the startup bong, but that's all. No hard disk activity, no change in the onscreen pattern. Pressing the programmers' switch results in sad mac chimes, but still no changes on screen.

Any ideas?

Paul
