Okay, lots of questions going round so here are the answers so far:

1. Startup bongs.
The startup bongs on my upgraded SE/30 are exactly as they were before. In fact, were it not for the stripey pattern on startup you wouldn't know that I'd swapped SIMMs until you checked out the memory.

2. What's the point?
Well, for one thing it eliminates one extension to load on startup. However, my main motivation is that I want to try and get OS 8.0 running on the machine (as outlined on Gamba's site). I can't explicitly say *why* I want to, but there is something undeniably cool about getting something running which officially isn't possible.

3. Does the machine now think it's a IIsi?
Nope. Going into "About this Macintosh" still reveals it to be an SE/30. I think that the reason I had to upgrade the system software was to get the OS to support a 32 bit clean machine. The only change I've noticed to the OS is that, despite not having Mode32 installed, I know have a "Turn on 32 bit addressing" option in the memory control panel. This never used to be there on the "dirty" software without Mode32.

4. How do you get the ROM?
Like Michael said, I got the SIMM from him. Occasionally you do just get these random bits and pieces floating around on eBay. I seem to remember Timco Computers listing them too.
