The 1/2 AA size ones cost about $20 (which is what the LC 475 uses).

This seems to depend on one's location. The Radio Shacks here in Austin Tx sell them for about $10--at least they did within the last year. A Fry's moved into town within the last three years, and the 1/2AA is about $6 at Fry's. Fry's has both the 1/2AA with contacts at the ends and the 1/2AA with wire leads at each end, so it pays to take a careful look at which battery one is taking to the register.
