I'm thinking about putting a IIe card in my Color Classic, simply because I don't have a IIe card in any of my machines. But before I get real excited about this (I'm going to lose my ethernet to do this), I thought I'd ask a few questions.
My CC currently has an LC 550 motherboard in it (with 36M RAM, and added VRAM). Will the card work with this setup? IIRC, the card only works when the memory is in 24 bit mode. Can I boot the machine in 32 bit mode if I don't use the card? If so, the machine doesn't burst into flames or anything drastic if I forget to reboot in 24 bit mode before trying to use the card, does it? I've currently got the cable for the IIe card , and it appears to have a floppy drive connector on it. Can I use 5 1/4" disk drives with this card? How about the DuoDisk? Unidisk? Standard Mac 800k 3.5"? Since I installed the 550 mobo, I now have two choices for monitor resolution, 512 by whatever, and 560 by whatever. Does this card work with either setting, or do I need to remember to switch the resolution when I switch the memory to 24 bit? If I put this card in and decide I like it for more than a novelty, will a SCSI to Ethernet adapter work with it? Any recommendations as to models or brands? Well, this is all I can think of for now.
