OS 7.1 huh (?)..... do you think my older Macs will run better in 7.1? I mean honestly 7.5 in my opinion its pretty bad (unless you go up to 7.5.5 and still I remember I didn't see much improvement AT ALL in my IIci I used to own 10 years ago, after everyone I knew kept recommending it) and I must admit, every OS I tested from that point on keep going downhill IMHO until OS 9.2 came up (9 was pretty buggy and don't get me started with 8, sometimes I couldn't even scroll on finder windows who knows why) I have 7.5 in all my older macs because I own the Mac Advocate CD 2 that brought it, but does anyone in this list recommend any specific version of OS that wont crash as often as 7.5 and its more reliable?

ITOH I found that ".DS_Store" files from OS X are killers to older OSs than the 9.2, I formatted my IIcis drive in my G3 with OS X and as I brought it to my IIci it wouldn't last long at all as soon as I launched applications it would crash badly, thats after I had formatted the drive and freshly installed everything from scratch in my G3. I ran Norton Utilities 3.1 (I think that's the one in there) and errors kept coming up. EVERYTHING was fixed (Norton's concluded). Restart, more freezes new errors kept developing, until I paid VERY close attention to that message that says "you have files that start with a dot, Apple recommends against this", I had previously chosen to bypass that, and boy I wish I had repaired it sooner, as soon as I did, the freezes were gone, so heed my warning ".DS_Store" files and such that begin with a period (and to make matters worse they are invisible) are toxic, no, killers, no, horrendous to our old Macs. Check often and delete then while you still can! LOL I am starting to sound like a maniac but the freezes were driving me nuts. Oh BTW it still freezes sometimes, but I guess its just the OS.

OH BTW, if I should downgrade how do I do it to transfer my settings and such what's the best way?
Thanks!

ROTFL. Old Macs running a well-tuned 7.1 are as robust as anything 7.5 or 8.x or 9.x could offer.

OTOH, I agree that 128Mb is overkill, except for the 'if it can be done, I want to do it' factor.
