This may not be the issue with panther, but when I used Jaguar and shared my internet connection, the built-in firewall conflicted with the sharing, so in order to surf the web, I had to enable port 80 for http and 443 for https, etc. If it's connecting to the ethernet properly, which it probably is when you set the port to 10mbps (I also had that issue, where the autosense didn't work correctly due to having an old card)

But yeah, I have enabled AppleTalk on the G5. :)

My SE/30 has 128MB RAM, a 2GB disk, and System 7.5.3. It also has what
I believe is an Asante MacCon +30 PDS ethernet card. I ran the
diagnostics on the card and it passes all tests. My 7.5.3 install is a
fresh "Easy" install. I downloaded and installed the Asante driver
version 5.6.1.

--------- My guess (from using an SE/30 with the same card) is that the Asante card is having trouble with the autonegotiation of the switch. I "fixed" the prolem by sticking a "dumb hub" between the SE/30 and the rest of the network.

Dumb question: did you enable classic networking on the G5? ISTR that's the
catch in some of these situations. I'm still on 9.2.2 on the G4, but I
follow the discussions closely. I think Marten has something on his site
about it:
http://www.euronet.nl/users/mvdk/osx.html (System 6 Heaven).
And I quote Bryan from this list: "In OS X, you have
to turn AppleTalk on in both System Preferences-Network and
Utilities-Directory Access. In 7.1, you have to upgrade your File Sharing
Extension to version 7.6.2 which comes with System 7.5.3. <snip> The
sharepoints program (www.hornware.com) ... may help."
