Rice's approach is simple and elegant, and above this, it would give you an excuse for having another Compact; but this could take some time. In the meantime, don't give up, think positive: Your Plus's system 6.0.8 is capable of handling 1.44 MB floppies. Your problem lies in the hardware. So, why don't you install on your HD a version of DiskCopy that can handle 1.44 MB disks, make an image of the Asante EtherTalk installer floppy (you've got 5.6.1, right?) on your 520 and transfer that to your external HD via SCSI. I don't think the Plus's weird 1:3 interleave should make the HD unreadable for the 520, only desktop rebuilding might come into the way. There's a hack, a key combo perhaps, to prevent it, but I can't remember it from the top of my head, more knowledgeable people on the list will know. Take the HD back to the Plus, mount the installer floppy image and install away...and don't tell me it didn't work. <coughing nervously because there's always a reason or two for something not to work...> Good luck, OM /"\ ASCII Ribbon Campaign \ / No HTML/RTF in email X No Word docs in email / \ Respect for open standards -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
