Hey, maybe I'm missing the point here..

But what does this setup actually DO?

You mention you were looking into using a compact Mac to control items in
your home, correct? This concept is interesting to me as it's not something
I had thought of as a possibility before.

However, from what I understand from reading here and at that URL, it
appears that all that's been accomplished is to turn on an LED or two using
a modem command.  Which would happen anyway if the LEDs were still inside
the modem itself and you had issued appropriate commands.

It seems to me that illuminating a couple modem LEDs, while perhaps nice to
look at during the holiday season, doesn't really serve any purpose, and is
still a very far cry from doing any kind of actual controlling of household
items.

But again, perhaps I'm misunderstanding or missing the point?
