Hello!
I've got my hands on an LC 550 that I'd like to monkey with, but it won't start up. The hard drive spins up, and sounds like it's about to go into '2nd gear' but instead spins back down again, and I get the question-mark-disk icon on the screen.
Here's a few questions:
- What's causing that? Anything I can do for it? I tried tapping the back of the hard drive as it was starting up, but it doesn't really seem to be sticking...
- Is there a source for replacement hard drives for this model?
- Is there any way to use a *different* internal hard drive with this model?
- I've tried booting from a floppy disk with 7.5.3 disk tools on it, but it just spits it out again. Any way I could get *that* to work? (It has no internal CD drive, I'm afraid.)
- I've got an Apple SCSI CD drive, and a 500MB SCSI hard drive; is there a way I could use them somehow to get the thing running, at least? (I've used cmd-ctrl-opt-shift to boot from the external HDD, just to see what would happen, but it gave me an error message saying I needed at least system 7.0.1; I have *no idea* what's on that HDD...)
Thanks for any help you can offer!
~Jeff
