Well, it wasn't really mine - but I could have done it! :¬) To be
fair, though, the software was a *lot* more modern than the machine.

WHAT? Never!

Not only is it not impossible, it's relatively easy if you know what
you're doing. (Of course, few people do. Most modern techs only know
Windows.) PCs had Ethernet from the very early days and network stacks
from not long afterwards. They were after all corporate, business
machines.

Well, AppleTalk over LocalTalk is further removed than an IBM 5150
with an NE1000 running Novell IPX, which could talk directly to an
appropriately-configured Windows Server 2003 box today, but yes, Apple
networking was integrated from Day 1.
