For the record, I've used the 4Gb ST15150N and ST15150W (with a FWB  
JackHammer card) in a IIci. They do get hot, but the airflow in the  
IIci form-factor seems to be very good across the hard-drive bay. It  
sucks in through slots in the front panel, across the drive, then  
through the PSU and out the back. I've not had one get too hot yet.

However, they are really power hungry, and I've had some (IIci) power  
supplies
struggle to provide enough juice to start-up the drive! I'm about to  
try PPC7100 PSU in a IIci because it has a slightly higher power  
rating. They looks the same otherwise..... Power would be a problem in  
a Compact.

One interesting observation is that power consumption doesn't seem to  
always follow hard drive capacity. You can find a more modern 9Gb drive  
with lower consumption than an older 2Gb :-)

Another thing that can happen in Compact Macs is to distort the CRT  
picture due to stray magnetic fields from a big hard drive. I've not  
tried a ST15150N in a compact, but I think the higher drive height  
could cause problems.
