yes, this seems to work. also, if you quit and restart anki, it still works, so i imagine you only have to export the parameter once per session. Thanks Jon and Daniel.
Does someone know if this means this report should be changed to list some other package like xrender or pyqt? for anyone who is not clear: you open a terminal and type: export QT_GRAPHICSSYSTEM=raster and then press Enter.
