Perhaps they concluded that it's not their core business and it's too much
investment without enough revenue potential for the company's mission? (At
the moment everybody is talking about that one other Framework. So promoting
the components is much work.)

I guess, that eZ has almost 100% of the core library they need for eZ Publish.
But if the project is dead, there is limited use even for them. And there
would be the risk of a fork (making things worse).

So it's much better/cheaper for them to get some people working on it. And it
wouldn't be a good image for the company if they won't maintain it enough in
the future. What should (potential) customers think if even a commercial
company is not able to back such a project. And what image could this cause
for eZ Publish.

What I learned from eZ: "We are happy if other people make money with our
software because this helps us as well." Thus, this is a consequent step for
them. And if the components are actively developed, each eZ Publish customer
can use the added features that are provided by the Zeta community - and that
eZ won't be able to provide.

Cheers

Thomas
