I tried them both and the Digital Mars compiler was better for
Lazarus at the time.

D may not be 1.5 slower for everything, it just happened to be
slower for that particular program. A D advocate sent me an
email and indicated that D has slow garbage collection issues,
but I recently read that it has a new garbage collector and
that there have been some optimizations in other areas. So
my imformation is out of date - it's probably better than
that now.

I know that the author of D has not emphasized optimizations
but I think he is now that it has reached version 1.0 and
beyond.
