So, do you believe that the human problem of overestimating early territory is more severe than the MCTS-bot problem of overestimating

Of course, I was exaggerating as much as Stefan:) The truth is: We simply don't know the perfect play's degree of territory vs. influence balance.

One thing is clear though: Traditional opening theory "ends" on the 4th line. Not because that line would be the end of the world but because traditional go theory is ignorant about trying to evaluate higher stones in comparison to lower stones well.

Needless to say, I have always been happy that MC programs have been ("accidentally" of course) copying my opening style as Black:) IMO, their 19x19 opening strength is at least 3d level. It might be higher but I cannot prove or disprove it. They tend to play a bit more unrelated stones that those in my games.

PS: Can you give us a comment on Fuego's influence-oriented Joseki's
in the KGS bot tournament on Sunday ?

I am not sure which game that is; please send it to me / the list as SGF inline or attachment. Or do you mean all games of Fuego played on 11-08?
