Usually you don't get a choice in the matter.  Hard Drives just die
and give little or no warning.  If you are getting error messages and
Dentist's suggestion isn't working, I think it's time to consider what
your data is worth to you.  If the drive goes bad, you may not be able
to recover as easily as you could now.  If you are using one partition
for your O.S., it's not too bad to transfer that over to a new
install.  You can use Easy Transfer or the USMT to get most of your
data:
