It is that hard to replace a hard drive as first thought. if there is
a big setup on your current hard drive, and you are getting alot of
errors, you might want think about cloning the drive.

This process involves using bootable software to copy the original to
a new drive identically. It allows you to keep your current data and
configuration with out starting from scratch while keeping your hard
drive in tacked.
TrueImage and Ghost are just some examples of good disk cloning
software that I use in my office.

Also what i would suggest, if you have that much critical data, you
might want to consider installing a RAID for redundancy to save you in
the future from a HDD crash. Cause once a HDD dies thats the end of
it.
