Advantages of not having a RAID array:
You get all of your storage space, 100% of it, in 6 different
drives....

Advantages of HAVING a RAID array:
Depending on how you set this up...

Backups, faster, easier?

If you have 6 drives you can use a parity and stripe, you would
unfortunately lose the storage space of one of the 6 drives, BUT it
would be at least 100% faster read/write and you would have the option
that if one of the 6 hard drives would die that you would be able to
replace one and rebuild and not lose any data!!!
Amazing :-)
