Hey Coalwater, Thanks, I actually have tried the cable on three laptops, so I know it is probably NOT the port, but likely the cable. IF it is the port, then it would not explain why it would have not worked on the two other laptops and across three TVs: two LCDs and one CRT.
I'm wondering, anyone suggest HDMI or DVI as a solution rather then just sticking with component? I know component is almost as good, but I'd buy a laptop with HDMI or DVI if I found a good deal somewhere.
