The speed cuts back on the processing time. The faster the processor
the faster it gets done.
Dual core's are usually much faster with a slightly lower speed.
I upgraded this year from an AMD XP2000+ to a dual core Opteron
157(?) which is a 2.01 GHZ with 1 MB cache.
I cut my processing time to a 1/10 of what it was before.
What would take me all night to process gets done in an hour.

Professionals were doing video work on computers long before 2.66
gig speeds were available, but this friend of mine has apparently
become convinced that such speeds are the minimum requirements
these days. Of course, such speeds require the latest machines and
big bucks, so she may be getting this advice from salespeople.
Any advice here on what she really needs to be looking at for
video work? She appears to want to gravitate to a Mac from being a
long time Windows user, but the cost of the latest Macs that run at
or above 2.66 gigs is more than she wants to spend. Maybe if she
really does not need that much processor speed she can get a
machine that will not be so costly.
