Good points - amount of RAM, bus speeds and other design factors do play their roles in determining performance. I would want at least a 7200 RPM HDD too (even faster are the 10K and 15K) connected via SAS or at the least, SATA.
The issues described would also apply to a Mac Pro workstation (desktop) with up to 8x CPU and something like 16 or 32 GB of RAM, two SATA disk drives, etc. Thank you, Mark Snyder -----Original Message----- Proc speed isn't the only thing you would want for a video editing machine. 2 to 3 gigs of RAM would be good for one. And processing speed isn't completely determined by the processor. The motherboard chipset/ bus is also an important factor. All you need to know about that is for sales reasons they often put fast procs on otherwise cheap computers. Cheap computers always have lesser chipsets/ motherboards. Expensive, workstation class computers... such as would be optimal for video editing... always have robust motherboard designs. For instance, if you were buying Dell and wanted a workstation class computer, you would buy from their Precision line. You would also probably want a second hard drive where the files to be rendered would be situated. ************************************************************************ * ==> QUICK LIST-COMMAND REFERENCE - Put the following commands in <== * ==> the body of an email & send 'em to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] <== * Join the list: SUBSCRIBE COMPUTERGUYS-L Your Name * Too much mail?
