For what it is worth, I have been using Audacity for a few years now. Version 1.2.6 for the Macintosh works very well. Version 1.3.3 for the Mac does not work as well. It is still considered a beta upgrade and the audio files it creates clearly have a bit of noise associated with them that is absent in version 1.2.6.
