I am not an audiophile, but I always enjoyed wonderful music.

Um, that's not exactly accurate based on the rest of your post.

Face it, Stewart, you ARE an audiophile :-).

However I have lost parts of my hearing over time as I served with line units in the army reserve.

Thank you for your service, and I mean it. My Dad was an infantryman in France during World War II. Nothing too glorious, but he won the
Bronze Star for gallantry in action. He taught me to shoot.

His MOS was "Radio Technician." He made Sergeant.

He also taught me a great deal about music and recording. Even though
his hearing was impaired, he was an accomplished classical guitarist.

Sometimes I did not appreciate his skills as I should have.

He was very selective about what tape decks and microphones we
should acquire, and how we should use them. He was a major
proponent of precision audio components and that has stayed with me.

We never had that much money and we never turned pro, but I
continue to believe that my Dad could have been a great recording
engineer. He was certainly a musician of quality.

I can listen to some MP3's and tell you they are inferior by how they sound.

You can, Betty can, Steve can, I can. That is evidence. Some have
better equipment than others. Some have hearing impairment to a
greater or lesser degree. But the bottom line is that MP3 sucks, from
an audio quality standpoint.
