Is the F: drive an internal or external (removable) drive? If the latter, have you always been careful to use the "unplug or eject hardware" applet in the systray, and only disconnected the drive when you get an OK message? Have you always shut down the computer properly? While you can often get away with simply unplugging an external hard drive, there will be times when doing so will trash your drive, and no easy recovery is possible.
