I recently purchased a Brother MFC-9840CDW Color Laser Multifunction
Center for use with my iMac G5, and found that it was easy to set up
and use. The wireless connection was easy to set up. I followed the
instructions and suddenly I was connected!
BTW, all of the features and software work, and work well. Fax, copy,
enlarge, scan, print, duplex print, hand feed, auto feed, etc.;
monochrome and color. I recommended this to my GF, and she bought it
and is happy with it too, even though she uses it with a Windows
machine.
I print photographs of people with this machine. They are not quite as
good as with my Epson Stylus C86, but the skin tone is good enough
for most of my purposes.
[I think that this is probably the newest color laser engine on the
market. It is very fast. Contrary to your opinion (we discussed this a
few weeks ago before I purchased the machine) the machine is NOT a
multi-pass machine (Brother confirmed this). It prints the black and
three colors in ONE pass of the paper through the machine. (Of course
with duplexing, it makes two passes.) Each toner cartridge has its own
corona wire. That's why it's rated at 21 pages per minute, monochrome
or color.]

Setting up a Brother printer can be hair raising. To get the low price
they have cobbled together a bunch of open source software for the
printer's controller and the documentation is slim. So if you are good
with Linux or know a lot about printers you can get the Brother to

HP printers are better, but costlier. HP used to make really good
printers, but never fully recovered from the Carlie Fiorina years.
Low end Xerox is rebranded Lexmark and should be avoided.
I have read good things about Canon.
I have a low-end color laser by Dell ($300). I'm impressed by what I
got
for so little money. For light-duty use, it does the job. However, it
frequently asks to have its power toggled off/on and recently it has
started to streak. I'm at 900 prints. I don't think it will survive to
the capacity of the toner cartridge (3000 prints).
